REPARATIONS FOR THE TULSA 3 & DESCENDANTS
The National Black United Front (NBUF) stands in solidarity with and in support of the TULSA 3, our Elders Mother Viola Fletcher (109), Mother Lessie Benningfield Randle (108) and Hughes Van Ellis “Uncle Red” (102) the last known survivors of the Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921 in their righteous fight for reparations.
We condemn the ruling of Judge Caroline Wall on July 7, 2023, to dismiss the claim for reparations made by the survivors against the City of Tulsa, Oklahoma. In addition, we condemn the earlier ruling by the same Judge to remove the descendants of the massacre from the lawsuit.
The well documented Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921 is estimated to have resulted in the murder of 300 residents; 35 blocks burned; hundreds injured, and over 1400 homes were burnt to the ground. 8,000 – 10,000 people were left homeless; 6000 more were detained in internment camps; there was also the destruction of schools, businesses, and a hospital. The violence was perpetrated by a white mob against the Black/African Community of Greenwood. These genocidal, terroristic acts represent Crimes Against Humanity. History teaches us that these atrocities were part of a wave of similar racially motivated attacks during the same era. Therefore, this period is a part of the historical ledger of valid claims for REPARATIONS for people of African descent including enslavement, colonization, Jim Crow Laws, neo-colonialism, and the current vestiges of racial terrorism in various forms.
The system that produced the Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921, is the same system that produced the murder of George Floyd in 2020. This system is governed by the applied myth of Global White Supremacy/Racism enforced in different centuries by different assailants with the same superiority complex.
The damages from the aforementioned crimes are incalculable in many respects. However, it is fitting and proper that they be raised. To do otherwise would be a betrayal of our great and mighty ancestors, as well as generations yet to be born. We encourage organizations and groups of every persuasion to join in solidarity with the Tulsa 3 as they have stood so strong into their twilight years. Finally, to gain a more in-depth understanding of this monumental fight for REPARATIONS, we suggest that we engage The African Ancestral Society based in Tulsa, Oklahoma at Africanancestralsociety@gmail.com.
FORWARD EVER, BACKWARD NEVER!
